The article presents an essay on civic education in Mexico. The author analyzes the current approach to teaching civics in Mexican primary and secondary schools, considers its ideological relationship to the status-quo, and critiques its association with elite political and economic views of citizenship. She also comments on an alternative paradigm which would value the rights and dignity of those that are excluded in current national notions of civic participation.
