- Abstract
The article presents historical cartographic documents describing geographic and ethnographic aspects of the Mayan population in the Yucatan peninsula. The documents describe in a schematized manner the historical process of Spanish conquest of the southern Mayan region which took place between the early 16th century and the late 17th century. The author focuses on the 16th century cartography of Fray Diego de Landa who accompanied the 1525 expedition to Honduras of Spaniard Hernán Cortés.
