International Baptist Perspectives on Human Rights.
- Authors
Deweese, Charles W.
- Abstract
The article looks at the human rights issues discussed by the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) at its Baptist World Congresses from 1905 to 2005. In 1911, BWA president John Clifford calls for stronger justice for the poor and that charity must not be a substitute for justice. Militarism, nationalism and totalitarianism as threats to human rights and religious liberty were the main emphasis of the meetings from 1923 to 1950. Member Neville Callam presented a paper entitled "Social Justice" during the 2005 Congress.
