- Authors
Desai, Hemang
- Abstract
In India, caste acts as a significant modifier of cultural discourse and thus its implications in the act of translation of literary texts cannot be underestimated. The challenges involved in transmigrating cultural referents specific to a Dalit worldview, cosmology and ethnography become all the more complicated and problematic especially when the target language happens to be English. The present paper attempts to identify and expound the ways in which identity politics and ideological contexts of Dalit literature can be embossed upon the narrative of atrocities and pain. Strategies of translation which addresses the issues of aesthetics, authenticity, discourse and cultural politics of representation will be examined in order to do justice to cultural difference and ideological edge of Dalit literature in English translation.
