- Title
Phonetic alphabet.
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of the UNIFON alphabet developed by John R. Malone. The UNIFON alphabet, which is comparable to the DISTAR System, is less complex in curriculum structure. Children who have been introduced to reading using this alphabet are commonly far ahead compared to children taught with the traditional approach. Children in the first grade who began in this program in September master the UNIFON System by October, learn reading and writing by December, able to transfer these skills to conventional English by April.
