- Title
Where Are the Health Care Cost Savings?
- Authors
Emanuel, Ezekiel J.
- Abstract
The author raises concern on health care cost savings in the U.S. given the increasing health care spending in the country. Among the factors driving high medical care costs are malpractice premiums and the cost of defensive medicine, insurance company profits, high drug costs, and excessive spending on patients who spend long periods in intensive care units. The author identifies vital aspects about health care spending and quality of care, and calls on physicians to help in reducing costs.
