- Title
The nexus of beef cattle–deforestation and the sustainable intensification era in Brazil.

- Abstract
Livestock production is a key sector of the Brazilian economy. The I Nellore i (zebu cattle) is the dominant breed, accounting for around 90% of total beef cattle population, with around the same proportion of beef meat being produced on pastures. The beef cattle-deforestation link may have been weakened only temporarily, as the reports after 2015 tell that deforestation rates have started to rise again (INPE 2019, http://terrabrasilis.dpi.inpe.br/app/dashboard/deforestation/biomes/legal%5famazon/rates) meaning that Brazil has potentially lost the track on meeting the NDC commitment.
