- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of thaw circles on the phenology and distribution of spring ephemeral plants. Researchers found that the start of the growing season for spring ephemerals begin a week earlier in thaw circles than in microsites. Researchers have found that spring beauty and other spring ephemerals are clearly adapted to growing under a leafless canopy due to their requirement of higher light levels for photosynthesis to exceed respiration.
