- Abstract
The article presents research seeking to determine the effect of the drug simvastatin on neuropsychological, neurophysiological, and neuroradiological outcome measures in children in with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF1). The design and setting to the study involving children diagnosed with NF1 in a controlled, randomized, double-blind trial at a hospital in the Netherlands is explained. The outcomes measured were delayed recall, speed, prism adaptation and mean brain apparent diffusion coefficient. It is noted that there were no significant differences between those that received simvastatin and the placebo group. Researchers concluded that simvastatin did not improve cognitive function in children with NF1.
