- Abstract
The article profiles Muhammad Yunus, the Bangladeshi founder of the Grameen Bank and an active supporter of the microcredit movement, a process that supplies small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. A number of topics are addressed including Yunus's initial foray into microfinance, his contention that the system is a key element in the eradication of poverty and his preference for lending to women. Also examined is opposition to Yunus's ventures expressed by both the political right and left.
