- Abstract
The article offers a look at the global market for bus manufacturing between 2000 and 2010. Global demand for autobuses totaled to 286,000 units in 2005 and is expected to increase to 352,000 units by 2010, a growth rate of 4.2 percent. China is forecasted to account for about one-third of global sales and export of buses. The number of bus manufacturers in China was estimated at over 100 in 2005, but may consolidate to 10 major companies by 2010. The general indicators of bus demand include population, income levels, urbanization and per capita density of personal vehicles. It is noted that the continuous increase in fuel prices will increase bus demand, as bus traffic is one of the most fuel-efficient transportation means.
