- Abstract
The article deals with the history of medical illustrations. During the ancient times, medically related illustrations were recorded by Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, Chinese and Indians on stone, metal, ceramic, porcelain, bamboo and silk. According to the claims by historians, the first pictorial signs appeared 30,000 years ago in the form of cave paintings. The role of the city of Alexandria in Egypt in the history of medicine is also discussed.
