GIFTS OF BIOLOGY.
- Authors
Flannery, Maura C.
- Abstract
In this article, the author describes some of the books that she read during her winter break from teaching. After reading the books, she realized there were themes that connected the books to each other. The first book was Sara Maitland's "A Book of Silence," which describes Maitland's long study of her personal experience with silence and solitude. She connected this book with a short story by Barry Lopez entitled "The Mappist," a story about a travel writer and cartographer. The short story discusses the innate urge by humans to relate to others.
