A DIFFERENT KIND OF TREASURE: FAUNAL REMAINS FROM THE OAK HILL SITE.
- Authors
Moore, Elizabeth
- Abstract
The article discusses the analysis of faunal remains discovered at the Oak Hill Plantation in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Topics discussed include salvage excavations at the site which led to the discovery of subfloor pits in slave quarters, specimens identified at the pits including mammals, birds and fish, and how the faunal analysis helped in learning about the food diet of slaves at the site due to the possibility that the pits were used as storage for food and personal items.
