- Abstract
The article discusses interdisciplinary approaches to archeology involving analogies between modern popular culture and prehistoric material culture. Methods from modern fields like network theory and population genetics can be used to create cultural evolution models for the Neolithic period, for example. Variations in such models of culture diffusion are discussed, from those that focus on individual adaptive behavior to those involving seemingly random behaviors related to art and design, spread through random copying.
