Uncovering the Process of Adult Computer Software Training.
- Authors
Hurt, Andrew C.
- Abstract
With technology advances, computer software becomes increasingly difficult to learn. Adults often rely on software training to keep abreast of these changes. Instructor-led software training is frequently used to teach adults new software skills; however, there is limited research regarding the best practices in adult computer software training. This paper looks at how software trainers incorporate the adult learning theories of andragogy, situated cognition, and the minimalist training approach into adult computer software training. Using grounded theory as the guiding methodology, this paper presents a developing process for adult computer software training that has been constructed from computer software trainer interview data. Results identify a clear connectedness between successful software training and the use of andragogy, situated cognition, and a minimalist approach.
