- Title
Test fairness: a response.
- Authors
Davies, Alan
- Abstract
The article focuses on the importance of fairness in the language testing community in Great Britain. The author mentions that the fairness-validity relation has three approaches which are fairness as an independent test quality, fairness as an all-encompassing test quality, and fairness as directly connected to validity in a principled way. It states validity is equally important to fairness since a test has to be fair in order to be valid. In addition, the author interprets fairness as a system that addresses what is designated as unfairness. Furthermore, it is suggested that the search for fairness in performance assessment is equated with equity.
