- Abstract
The article discusses the significance of music during the Civil Rights movement in Arkansas as well as the attribution of the songs. The usefulness of music and song has been recognized in times of social movements because it eases fears, reinforces the activists' identities and helps establish solidarity. The song "Marching Song of the First Arkansas Colored Regiment," is attributed to Captain Lindley Miller and "The Valiant Soldier," is attributed to Sojourner Truth.
