- Abstract
Introduction: Evaluation of the importance and the effects of plant derived drugs on fertility of laboratory animals have long been recognized. In this research the effects of administration of ethanol extract and oil extract heraclleum persicum on parameters sperm in male mice were evaluated. Materials and Methods: Eighteen mice were randomly divided into 3 groups, control (n=6), group A (n=6) and group B (n=6). Animal in control group received 1ml of distilled water and test but group A received dose of 500 mg/kg body weight of ethanol extract and group B received dose of 500 mg /kg body weight of oil extract of heraclleum persicumrespectively daily for 30 days. At the end of experiment, fertility indices such as sperm motility, count and morphology were measured according to WHO criteria. Results: There was a significant difference in level α=0.05 in the sperm progressive (p=0.002), nonprogressive (p=0.002), morphology (p=0.02) and viability (p=0.001) group wich received the exfract and oil of heraclleum persicum. Conclusion: The result of this study showed that the oil and ethanol extract of heraclleum persicum may increase fertility potential of spermatozoa in mice.
