- Abstract
This paper deals with Mary, the Mother of God, as an heuristic device for S0ren Kierkegaard's conception of the work of love in praising love as found in Works of Love. Using both the text itself as well as pertinent journal entries, the paper shows how Mary fulfills all the requirements necessary to praise love: (1) by engaging in that selfrenunciation which is the result of thinking only one thought, the infinite thought, and (2) by obtaining to outward sacrificial disinterestedness. As such, she reflects what Kierkegaard was undergoing in his own life and, hence, producing as his text.
