- Abstract
The article provides overview on the on the process which Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) have undertaken to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the health care system in the U.S. It states that the first move that was under taken by the U.S. federal government was the creation of the Office of the National Coordination for Health Information Technology (ONC) which aimed at providing counsel to the secretary of Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It mentions the creation of several committees under the Department of health to provide developments over the health information technology giving emphasis on healthcare system improvement.
