- Title
LIFT HIGH THE CROSS?: CONTRASTING THE NEW EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN CASES ON RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.
- Authors
Witte Jr., John; Arold, Nina-Louisa
- Abstract
The article discusses the cases before the European Court of Human Rights and the U.S. Supreme Court involving the presence of crosses on government property. The European Court has held that the public display of crucifixes in Italian public schools has violated the right of parents to educate their children in conformity with their own convictions and the right of children to freedom of thought. In the other case, the Supreme Court has ordered the retention of the cross in a public land.
