- Abstract
The article discusses research which demonstrated the possibility of cells from the mesodermal lineage to be switched to an ectodermal lineage using a simple cocktail of transcription factors. It references a study by T. Vierbuchen et al, published in a 2010 issue of the journal "Nature." The findings of the study reportedly infer new ways for the regeneration of neural tissues and offer additional support that lineage reprogramming can be used to create several desired cell types for regenerative medicine and drug discovery. Also described is the concept of lineage reprogramming thru a transient primitive state.
