- Title
THE INVARIANT ANALYSIS OF REPRESENTATIONAL STYLES.
- Authors
Kovtun, I. V.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the idea of representational invariants which was introduced by Ya. A. Sher to apply the invariance principle in the stylistic analysis of rock art. It states that a clear representation comprises of meaningful and expressive elements and the sum of what and how it is represented. It also cited the specific styles for each element and mentions the plane of expression and content. It also presents a similar analytic approach to prehistoric art which revolves around Paleolithic representations or graphical stereotypes. It also suggests that invariant analysis can be applied to ornamental compositions, figurative representations and figurative-symbolic complexes of ritual applied art and graphic art proper.
