- Abstract
This article reports the first record of the tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) in tomato and marigold plants in India. TSWV is a serious virus that affects over 900 plant species worldwide. Previously, TSWV had been documented in chrysanthemum and snapdragon plants in Nilgiris, India. Symptoms of TSWV, such as necrotic spots and leaf bronzing, were observed in tomato and marigold plants cultivated near the infected snapdragon and chrysanthemum plots. Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of TSWV in the symptomatic plants, and genetic analysis showed a high similarity to known TSWV sequences. The authors acknowledge funding support from the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Science and Technology.
