- Abstract
The article discusses commentaries on the Rule of Benedict that were drafted during the Middle Ages. Topics include commentaries on the Rule for Monks from the early Middle Ages, the first complete commentary on the Rule of Benedict from the eighth century, rule commentaries from the high Middle Ages including observations from Rupert of Deutz, Stephen of Paris' commentaries from the thirteenth century, commentaries of the Melk, Tegernsee, and Kastl reform efforts, and commentaries from the fourteenth and second half of the fifteenth century.
