VICTORIAN TRADE UNION STATISTICS, 1889-1914.
- Authors
MACARTHY, P. G.
- Abstract
The article presents an examination of Victorian trade union records and statistics for the period between 1889 and 1914. It is noted that there are no official statistics for most unions in Victoria because many of them failed to register under the Trade Unions Act of 1890. However, secretaries of the Melbourne Trades Hall Council kept records of individual unions and subventions paid. Tables listing payments made by groups of unions affiliated with the Melbourne Trades Hall Council for full membership dues and representative fees are analyzed.
