- Abstract
The author discusses the rise and decline of the Australian building industry employees union in Brisbane, Queensland from 1912 to 1918. The author talks about the history of the State-wide Australian Workers Union (AWU), which replaced the Australian Labour Federation. The general strike of 1912 is also discussed. A conference on amalgamating the building trades was held by the Industrial Council in 1914. Subjects of the article also include the AWU's relationship with the Labor Party, the establishment of the Australian Building Industry Employees Union (ABIEU), and the union of Progressive Carpenters.
