- Abstract
The article describes the results of the gemological examination of a lead glass-filled color-change sapphire, conducted at the Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur, India. In daylight and under fluorescent light, the stone appeared brownish. In contrast, the stone appeared brownish purple in incandescent light. The stone fluoresced weak reddish orange under long-wave ultraviolet radiation. A doublet in the red region, a weak absorption in the orange-yellow region, and a strong band in the blue region were observed through desk-model spectroscopy. A blue to violet flash effect was displayed on the surface-reaching cracks of the stone during magnification. Flattened gas bubbles in the fractures and white crystallites in the filled cavities were also observed.
