- Abstract
The article focuses on the components of an emerald crystal carving of a standing Buddha based on the assessment by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand in 2007. Raman spectroscopy determined that the crystal is a beryl. Microscopy found that the carving has brown crystals, rectangular colorless crystals, traces of fractures and two-phase inclusions. Gemological microscope revealed that cedarwood oil was used to improve the clarity of the crystal.
