- Abstract
The article presents information on the discovery of color-zoned axinite from Baluchistan, Pakistan. According to Herb Obodda of Short Hills, New Jersey his supplier had purchased 6 kilograms of the material which were recovered by local shepherds in a remote part of the Taftan Mountains. Obodda loaned five crystals and eight cut axinites to the Gemological Institute of America. The samples were medium to light brown which was modified by strong pleochroism and color zoning in reddish purple and in other colors. The properties of the sample can be compared to those reported for axinite except for an absorption peak at 425 nanometers.
