EFECTOS INMUNOMODULADORES DEL HIDROXITIROSOL, ANTIOXIDANTE DE LA FRACCIÓN INSAPONIFICABLE DEL ACEITE DE OLIVA.

- Abstract
Objetivos: El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar en ratones sanos los efectos inmunitarios del hidrotirosol (3, 4-dihidroxifeniletanol) (HT), un antioxidante fenólico presente en el aceite de oliva en elevadas proporciones. Material y métodos: A ratones Balb/c adultos (n = 10/grupo) se administró diariamente por medio de sonda gástrica HT (0,5 g/kg peso de ratón) o agua (vehículo) durante un mes. Transcurrido este tiempo los ratones fueron sacrificados y tanto bazo como médula ósea fueron extraídos para determinación de diversos parámetros inmunológicos. Resultados: La administración de HT llevó al incremento del tamaño y número de células del bazo y una mayor proliferación de linfocitos tanto T como B, así como la producción linfocitaria de IL-2. Por el contrario, la liberación de otras citocinas Th1 (TNFα e IL-12) y Th2 (IL-4) fue reducida por el consumo de HT. El suministró de HT produjo un aumento en la producción de la citocina inmunosupresora IL-10, probablemente responsable de la inhibición de las respuestas Th1 y Th2. En el caso de macrófagos, solo se apreció un incremento significativo en la síntesis de IL-10, no observándose variación en el resto de parámetros analizados. Conclusión: El hidroxitirosol presenta una actividad inmunosupresora en animales sanos, probablemente consecuencia de su capacidad de activar la producción de IL-10 por parte de las células del sistema inmunitario, hecho que podría conferirle propiedades anti-inflamatorias y posiblemente anti-alérgicas. El aumento en la proliferación linfocitaria probablemente esté asociado al incremento de linfocitos reguladores.
