The article offers information on the history of liturgical music in the Western Church and Saint Augustine. It further discusses about his impact on the comprehension of music and beauty in liturgy was both positive and negative; according to the Pythagorean and neo-Pythagorean theory, reflections of eternal numbers existing in the realm of ideas; and further mentions that St. Augustine comprehends music as poetry, melorecitation or rhythmicized speech.
