Secularization, European Identity, and "The End of the West."
- Authors
Jakelić, Slavica
- Abstract
This essay reports on secularization, European religious identity, and Europeans' religious conflict with the Americans. Mentioning Christian heritage in the constitution of the European Union, French decisions, and debates on the public role of religion brings many disputes and disagreements in Europe. European religious pluralism has two components, the difference in the levels and character of religiosity between Catholic and Protestant countries, and the emergence of new religious movements with an individualistic character and spirituality. The phenomena that change the European religious scene, include the presence of Islam, and the collectivistic Christianities.
