- Abstract
The article is a book review of "American Popular Song: The Great Innovators, 1900-1950" by Alec Wilder, edited and revised by Robert Rawlins. The book explores the work of notable US popular song composers and provides analysis and commentary on their songs. Rawlins adds footnotes to amplify and clarify Wilder's observations. The new edition includes lead-sheet style music examples and lyrics. The review also mentions another book, "Women in Rock, Women in Romanticism," edited by James Rovira, which explores the connection between women rock musicians and romantic thought and symbolism.
