- Abstract
The article presents the presidential address given by Bruce Glasrud, president of the East Texas Historical Association, at the association's annual meeting in 2013. He looks at the extent and sources of violence carried out by white against black Texans through the 20th and early 21st centuries, discussing topics including lynchings, race riots, and the black political organizations in the area, particularly the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
