The author examines the benefits and challenges of science fairs and offers suggestions on how to update the tradition in the U.S. It provides an account of the conduct of past and present science fairs which is traced to at least 1928 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Suggestions and recommendations for teachers to best incorporate the art of science and create meaningful inquiry experiences for students are presented.
