- Title
THE SEARCH FOR Unusual Suspects.
- Abstract
The article features the approach of scaffold hopping in biotechnology. Also called as ligand or core hopping, scaffold hopping was coined by Gisbert Schneider. The approach works on the techniques used to determine isofunctional molecules, or different chemotypes. The computational tools for scaffold hopping can be effective through the use of scientific literature. Kenneth Foreman, a computational chemist at the OSI Pharmaceuticals, said that the more ligand information there is, the more likely that key pharmacophoric elements will be picked out.
