A long journey to be anatomic.

- Abstract
The authors examine several studies published on anatomical anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. It was 1980 when the first arthroscopically assisted ACL reconstruction was performed by D. J. Dandy. According to the authors, conventional non-anatomic ACL reconstruction techniques do not prevent the development of early osteoarthritis following ACL injury. They stress the need to consider concomitant injuries, bony morphology, homoestasis of the knee, and neuromuscular control in anatomic ACL reconstruction.
