PREVIOUSLY, it has been shown that the catalytic activity of Fe(III) or peroxidase can be enhanced by a variety of colloidal substances including deoxyribonucleic acid1, celluloses2, and starch3. Other investigations4-6 have demonstrated the macromolecular activation or modification of a number of oxidative or hydrolytic systems. Such observations direct attention to the role of environmental factors other than those usually encountered in vitro in biochemical reactions.
