- Abstract
Total triterpenoids and sterols in seven Ganodermataceae species were determined using a UV spectrophotometer and their cytotoxicity against human hepatoma cell lines HepG2 and SMMC-7721 were investigated by the MTT method. The results showed that the total triterpenoids and sterols content in these species successively decreased in the order of Ganoderma tsugae, G.luteomarginatum, G.lucidum, G.masinense, G.resinaceum, G.mastoporum, and Amauroderma rude.Except G.mastoporum and A.rude, all the other five species were accorded with the stipulations in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2015 ed.). The ethanol extracts from all seven species showed cytotoxicity against the HepG2 cell line, with IC50 values of 102.12μg/mL, 143.84μg/mL, 92.17μg/mL, 121.11μg/mL, 92.74μg/mL, 163.11μg/mL, and40.25μg/mL for G.tsugae, G.luteomarginatum, G.lucidum, G.masinense, G.resinaceum, G.mastoporum, and A.rude, respectively. On the other hand, none studied species but A.rude showed cytotoxicity against SMMC-7721 cells(IC50:166.21μg/mL). Since A.rude contained the least tested compounds but the greatest cytotoxicity against the two hepatoma cancer cell lines among all seven species, there may be other active ingredients contributing to the observed inhibitory activity against the human hepatoma cell lines. These results raised a new direction for the antitumor research of A.rude.
