- Abstract
The article focuses on the conclusion of a study that targeted HIV testing programs based on prison inmates' self-report of conventional HIV risk behaviors are likely to underestimate HIV prevalence. A study of data from the North Carolina Department of Corrections found that the overall HIV prevalence among male and female prisoners was three percent. It also discovered that 44% of HIV-positive prisoners did not report any of the conventional HIV risk behaviors.
