- Abstract
The article examines several studies and elimination of sexism in education. In one study, junior high school teachers were asked to select adjectives that they felt would describe good male and female students to show that sex stereotyping (ST) has a fundamental effect on student behavior. Another study where 2 groups of children were the subjects shows the unhappy effect of the student's dependency on rewards. The changes in sexist policies and attitudes sometimes occurs through the actions of a concerned teacher, parent or community member. It is emphasized that consciousness-raising group can be adapted and the new developments in humanistic education can be used to adapt for nonsexist teacher preparation.
