The article outlines the basics of having an arts-based economic development strategy or creative placemaking. Topics include the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis having recently completed an in-depth analysis of the arts and cultural sector's contributions to current dollar gross domestic product (GDP), and four basic strategies for creative placemaking activities which include anchoring, activating, and planning.
