The article examines the Biblical and post-Biblical context of the issue of voice and silence, or prayer and the priestly office of the Jewish Temple. Contrast between the song of the Levites and the prayer of the people is mentioned. The religious outlook of the Priestly Torah is examined. The presence and place of silent prayer within Jewish religious practice is then asserted.
