- Abstract
The Theatre History Department of the Moravian Museum has been researching and documenting traditional Czech puppet theatre since late 1960s. It has been systematically building a puppetry collection which contains more than four thousand items. They come from the inventories of puppet theatres of puppet families, especially Moravian ones. The individual sets also preserve works of leading carvers from Bohemia and Moravia. The puppets from the workshop of carver Mikoláš Sychrovský are among the oldest and rarest surviving Czech marionettes. They represent a unique authentic proof of the form of the most ancient Czech itinerant puppet theatre. They date from approximately mid-nineteenth century. This article discusses their form and representation in the collection of the Moravian Museum.
