- Abstract
Counselling is not a meeting between two equal individuals but it is a structured meeting – a meeting between a counselling psychologist who has the required qualification and knowledge and a client – a person who has psychological problems which are subject to the counselling interaction. The nature of counselling is that it is a hierarchical meeting, both in the negative and in the positive sense of the word. The good counselling psychologist should understand the hierarchical nature of counselling, accept that as a natural part of the counseling process and learn to use various techniques in favour of the client for lowering the position of authority, as well as learn what the positive aspects of the hierarchical nature of counselling are.
