- Abstract
The article presents a study which described instances of cannibalism in maternity colonies of the greater mouse-eared bat Myotis myotis. The degree of aggressive behavior, the types of damage done causing death, and the factors surrounding the cannibalism event are noted. Lethal damage to the head, either from attacks from behind or to the side of the head, is the cause of death. The aggressive behavior is claimed to be triggered by climate conditions causing contention for feeding sites.
