- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Adolescent suicide is significant mental health care challenge. Facets like Knowledge, attitude on adolescent suicide prevention strategies, Identification of suicide clues, depression signs and reporting suicidal risk will help in preventing adolescent suicide. AIM: To asses the knowledge of suicide prevention, identification depression signs, suicide clues and reporting suicidal risk among selected high school students MATERIALS AND METHODS: A survey was conducted in rural and urban areas of Mangalore district among 1200 high school students using stratified random sampling. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Results shows that the students knowledge on prevention of adolescent suicide is low (mean%36), attitude towards these suicide prevention is neutral (41%), their depression signs identification and suicide clue identification scores are low (mean 20,30%) also their reporting of suicide risk score also low (35%) .The logistic regression shows that the exposure to the suicidal prevention information has some relation to improve the knowledge and thereby reporting the suicidal risk, it also emphasizes the need of structured education on adolescents' suicide prevention.
