Presents a study of the interactions between the ant Iridomyrmex nitidiceps and the lycaenid butterfly Paralucia aurifera in southeastern Australia. Benefits to both participants from their association; Lycaneid growth and development; Lycaenid's nectary gland secretion as food for the ant.
